ABC’s of Skin Cancer Awareness

Dr. Jen's ABC's

of Skin Cancer

Awareness

A: Avoidance

Sun avoidance is key. I don't mean that you can't go outside, but for example, I mean avoid the sunny side of the street, seek the shade, rest under a tree or awning. Avoid lingering in the sun.

B: Be mindful of your Behavior

See how you can modify your behavior to be successful with A & C. Choose when and where to do your outdoor activity. Be prepared to bring the right sun protective gear with you. Have fun accessorizing for the sun.

C: Coverage

Good clothing with proper UPF protection (UPF 40-50+) to cover your skin. Hats with wide brims, Sun Sleeves (Dr. Jen's UVRX), lightweight long sleeve shirts, lightweight pants instead of shorts, swim shirts. Get the right sunwear to enjoy the outdoors without the sun impacting your day/skin/life.

And last but not least, S: Sunscreen

Yes sunscreen is last on the list because the "ABC"s are so much more important!! Use sunscreen on the small areas that are still exposed to the sun. Use a broad UVA, UVB sunscreen which you apply generously (quarter size for the face) and frequently (at least every 2 hours).
